I'm running my first upgrade over a fresh 0.8-base install, and after syncing, I get a dependency error when I attempt to upgrade (with the first package, pacman, of course). The sync db doesn't have fakeroot, libarchive, or libdownload. I've tried doing this with both my usual server (Ga tech is pretty reliable) and with the official FTP, and I get this error with both.
I didn't have this problem last time I ran an upgrade in 0.8 (over a fresh install), why this time?

Have you read the frontpage news?

I see. Should I wait until this is done before I try upgrading anything? I've manually added the necessary dependencies to upgrade pacman, but I get a number of warning messages with my updated pacman, as well as troubles with my mirrors...seems like this is a bad time to be upgrading.

You ran "pacman -Sy pacman" or "pacman -S libdownload libarchive fakeroot"?
What warnings/errors do you get?
This change happened already a few days ago, so there should be no issues.

Initially, I ran
pacman -Sy
dbs synced fine. Note that the GATech and VTech servers are down, which may be a concern for east-coast US users. Then I ran
pacman -Su
And, after confirming to upgrade pacman first, I received the error about the three dependencies. Mind that this is based off the Arch ftp, so the mirrors are correct.
Then,
pacman -S libarchive libdownload fakeroot;
pacman -Su

And it worked or not after the final pacman -Su?

try
pacman -S pacman
before doing anything else
