i guess pacman hangs on this and won't go any further...
Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem on a manual run of mkinitcpio, it hangs at :: Parsing hook [autodetect] and cpu usage drops to 0%, all I can do is ctrl-c.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: now it suddenly works after a reboot... Strange.
