Pango or GTK error in Acidrip

After recent updates I am no longer able to use Acidrip
I can load the program fine, but when I load a DVD I get an error when Acidrip is about to show the table of contents.

Pango-WARNING **: shape engine failure, expect ugly output. the offending font is 'Bitstream Vera Serif Not-Rotated 0' at /usr/bin/acidrip line 60.
Segmentation fault

I am having the same problem on 2 Arch64 machines. I have not done an upgrade in a long time on my Arch32 machine so I dont know if it will affect it or not.

I have tried:
rebuilding the font cache, i forget the connand at the moment but found it somewhere on the forum
uninstalling the bitstream vera fonts (pango just errors with a different font)
rolling back pango to a previous release

I havent tried rolling back gtk2 to an earlier release yet.

versions I am using, and having problems with:
gtk2-2.10.12-2
pango-1.16.4-1
acidrip-0.14-3

Re: Pango or GTK error in Acidrip

I'm also having issues. Mine are with xfdesktop.

(xfdesktop:5747): Pango-WARNING **: shape engine failure, expect ugly output. the offending font is
'Bitstream Vera Sans Not-Rotated 0' Segmentation fault
pacman -Rns ttf-bitstream-vera ttf-freefont

fixes the problem, but then I have crappy fonts.

Re: Pango or GTK error in Acidrip

Ditto.  There's a post to the mailing list about this as well.  I'm not sure that the pango output is relevant - I see that from time to time when I use gtk apps and it doesn't always precede a crash.  I've also run across several posts like this on the internets by people using various distros, so it doesn't appear to be arch-specific.

Not using arch_64, fwiw.

Re: Pango or GTK error in Acidrip

Acidrip is working again fine here.  I still get the pango error, though.

Ah!  The encoding counters work again too!  Fantastic!

Re: Pango or GTK error in Acidrip

I noticed that too. I still get the pango error as well but at least acidrip is working!
