Re: GRUB problem,windows xp

In grub, press "e" on the Windows selection.  Change (hd0,0) to something else, like (hd1,0), (hd0,1), etc. and press "b" to boot.

Re: GRUB problem,windows xp

No. It's not the same thing. I'm not sure but I think "hda" refers to IDE disks and "sda" to scsi disks.

But looking at my partition table (right now) I'm not sure.. All my disks are set to sda*, (but my partition is set to hd0,0).. I guess this wasn't really helping..:S

But if your partition is hda1 (or sda1) I can't see why you should have something else then hd0,0 in menu.lst.. Definitely not an expert in the subject though wink

Re: GRUB problem,windows xp

Boot into ArchLinux start cfdisk as root and look whether your Windows Partition has the flag boot. If not, change it.

Re: GRUB problem,windows xp

You could restore the original WinXP bootloader to know if something works at least.
Boot your Windows installation CD and choose the repair option.
You get into a shell-like interface. Login into your WinXP installation (sometimes pressing enter instead of typing the password works).
Then type "fixmbr" (without quotation marks) ans reboot without the CD.

Re: GRUB problem,windows xp

But at it is now, you can't boot any OS on your harddrive.
It's no problem to reinstall grub.
