Ordinary User+VIDIX+GMPlayer= how!!??

Traditionally, to get MPlayer working with VIDIX (I like vidix, and it's faster than xv, besides I'm running F@H in the background, so I want as much CPU free as possible) I always chmod +s 'ed it. However, gmplayer doesn't like being setuid. How do I reconcile the two?
It says:

MPlayer 1.0rc1-4.1.2 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel Celeron 2/Pentium III Coppermine,Geyserville (Family: 6, Model: 8, Stepping: 3)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 0
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE

(process:9903): Gtk-WARNING **: This process is currently running setuid or setgid.
This is not a supported use of GTK+. You must create a helper
program instead. For further details, see:

    http://www.gtk.org/setuid.html

I'm already in users, audio, video, optical... etc. etc.
