Formatting a 90% NTFS 10%FAT

My windows crashed due to an NTFS break... So I'm going to reformat. I want to make my hard drive 90% NTFS and 10% FAT32. I don't have any partitioning software like Partition Magic or anything. I want WinXP on the NTFS and the FAT drive will be for sharing between linux and windows. I don't want an OS on the FAT32. How can I do this? I have the Win98 disk and the WinXP disk. How can I do this?

Use fdisk on the Win98 CD to create 2 partitions and format as FAT32 (can't remember whether the XP disk also uses fdisk or has an alternative way of doing it). When you come to install XP it will give you the option of converting the install partition to NTFS.

How can I format it to fat? With the Win98 Setup? Or via command line or fdisk?

Pop in the Widnows XP disk. After a couple of prompts you will be asked which partition you would like to install Windows XP to and be given the option to slect current disk or to delete current partitions. Delete the current partition and create a primary, the partition you will install XP on making sure to leave 10% empty for your FAT32 partition. Let the install finish. Once booted into Windows XP right click on My Computer. A menu will appear click on Manage the click on Disk Manager. From there you should be able to create your FAT32 partition with the empty space.
