Re: A day without X

i've gone without x for a while. the worst bit is a web browser. elinks and w3m do a wonderful job, but the lack of images sucks, and links' tab support is fairly weak. Not much good for forums.

oh, and good additions to that would be snownews, mpd, and gnu screen.

Re: A day without X

For mere new sites I'm using indeed lynx. No problem at all. Newsbeuter e.g. is a superior replacement for snownews or raggle.

http://synflood.at/newsbeuter.html

musicpd + ncmpc; mutt + fetchmail; vi as all-in-one editor and so on and sometimes mplayer in shell big_smile

Re: A day without X

I generally "live without X".  The two main reasons I use X at all are: smaller/nicer fonts for terminal apps and background images for urxvt; and firefox.  Web browsing takes a hard hit without X as it's a paradigm shift that can't be covered at that level (yet... I'm sure some killer idea could change this, but trying to recreate the exact same browsing paradigm without X is not going to work).
