laptop with ATI Radeon XPress 1250

I've got a Samsung R40 laptop with Radeon XPress 1250 on board. Xorg fails to start with vesa driver, but with fglrx it doesn't start because of version mismatch (Xorg 7.1 required, but there's 1.3?). So, in which direction should I dig to? This is first time I deal with ATI video cards, so I really don't know how to configure them properly.

Thanks in advance and sorry for maybe stupid question.

Re: laptop with ATI Radeon XPress 1250

Hi mate,

I have a Samsung R20 which has the same graphics card.

How are you installing the fglrx driver? I installed it from pacman and it worked fine, I could never get it to work for ATI's own installer.

I did:
pacman -S fglrx
xorgconfig
aticonfig --initial

Hopefully that'll get you up and running. To get beryl working I had to install XGL as well and start X via startxgl. It's lovely having those 3D windows. :-D
