I just installed Arch on my Acer laptop orignially using the open source ATI driver, however, I tried to install the propriety drivers, now all I get is a blank screen. I cannot even get to a command line terminal to reconfigure the xorg and rc.conf files. GDM is listed under the daemons array. Is there any way I can prevent GDM loading so i can get to a command line?

Can you CTRL-ALT-F1 to get to a console or is that not working either?
If not, you can boot up with the Arch installer cd and mount your root partition and edit your rc.conf that way.

After searching a "bit" I found this essential piece of information (should be in the wiki for sure).
To boot into "repair mode" in linux put "linux single" in grub bootup options!
