snd_hda_intel and volume

Hi there!

I got the above mentioned chip in my laptop, and i got an pcm volume knob. When I start mplayer for example the volume is like 100% although pcm is nearly silenced. So i guess mplayer and other apps, like warsow supertuxkart, wormux...., get controled by another volume knob. So my question is, how to find this knob and control it?

thx

Re: snd_hda_intel and volume

I'm also having this problem sad
On other distros, (sidux and *buntu for instance) alsamixer has a PCM control. On archlinux there is no PCM control, and the 'Master' must either be ON or OFF, so the volume, if enabled, must be at max.

Anyone know how to solve this? yikes

Re: snd_hda_intel and volume

I'll second this. Although it's never really bothered me that much cause I usually have the sound turned off, unless I decide to play some tunes then I'll adjust the volume to a comfortable level.

Re: snd_hda_intel and volume

Try this:

Right-click on the properties of the "Volume Manager" applet in the panel ans select the PCM device to control...

If you don't see the PCM channel, you can try doubel-clicking the "Volume Manager", going to preferences and selecting it:

It works for me!
