places sidebar in Nautilus

There is probably a stunningly easy answer to this question, and I feel like a total n00b for asking, but I can't seem to figure it out.

I can't seem to get the Nautilus places sidebar to show up at all. Does anyone know how do I enable this?

Thanks.

I do not have a GNOME install atm so I cannot exactly dig deep into this, but have you checked for an option to enable within the "view" menu?

Yeah, nothing in the view menu does it, unfortunately. Thanks though. smile

You need to turn on Browser Windows under Edit | Preferences. Click the Behavior tab and check the box that says Always open in browser windows.

Ah brilliant! Thank you. That did it.

(and it was fantastically easy, I can't believe I couldn't figure that out....oh well)
