I run GNOME with beryl and XGL on my arch linux system.
I was out for a week and just ran pacman -Syu. I noticed one thing it downloaded was the new version of metacity. When i rebooted, i found that my beryl will not work - it is stuck on metacity...
When I rightclick the beryl icon in the top-right now and go to 'select window manager' and choose 'beryl', nothing happens and when I go back i see it is still on metacity.
if i type beryl in the terminal, i get this...
Detected xserver : NVIDIA
Checking Display :0.0 ...
Checking for XComposite extension : failed
No composite extension
134706409 screens detected.
Currently we cannot guarantee that Beryl will work correctly with multiple X screens.
Using the --no-context-share command line option can help.
Please report any success to the beryl developer mailing list. The list can be found at lists.beryl-project.org
I have never had these problems before... Anyone know what the issue is?

I also notice that if I check the running processes, xgl is not one of them. Is this the problem??

I figured out the problem. GDM was also updated during the process and the config file had to be edited again to use the XGL server. All fixed now; no worries ![]()
