Wrong paper size printing 3x5 index cards

I want to print onto 3x5 index cards from a pdf.  I am using evince.  In evince I have created a custom paper type called 3x5 index cards with the dimensions 76x127mm.

My printer, through CUPS->Printer Options also has the paper size set to 3x5 index card.

When I print from evince the printer loads the paper, complains that it is the wrong size and quits.

The printer is and HP All-in-One of the 257* series.  It prints everything else just fine in Linux.

Using Windows I can print directly from Acrobat to the cards, so I know the paper size is compatible.

Any ideas on how else I can tell the printer what size paper I want?

You might need to set up a new printer with the desired paper size (so that you have printers HP_A4 and HP_3x5, for example). That works on my HP Deskjet.

I wondered about that.  I'll try it.  Thanks.

I've discovered that paper size is also set by your Locale!  Who knew?  I use en_GB and it defaults to A4 dimensions...
