system too slow to respond

i have seen my system goes too slow to respond. this happens frequently and only on Arch. event he word i am typing right now do not appear at the moment i press the keys . they take some time to get printed on the screen. my whole system i SLOW, even i can not move my mouse properly in X, it is much slower in response to click or movements. i have hostname in "/etc/hosts" and "lo" is enabled too. now WHAT IS WRONG ?

i have seen "top" and i see CPU load for X varied between 26% to 94%:

What video card do you have? Also, what driver are you using for X? I have an ATI card at home, and I screwed up the config one time, and had problems like that. Possibly try posting your xorg.conf?

I'm having this problem too. I suspect it may be a problem with firefox. Were you running firefox when you posted that message?

OK, I think it's just that my system is too old and cranky to run KDE. Since changing to XFCE I haven't had any problems, touch wood.

i forgot what resolved the issue but i did these 2 things:

1.) Firefox update
2.) installed "openchrome" drivers instead of "xf86-video-via"
