Trying to run xgl on ati

Hi.

I have installed xgl and sett it up with this guide: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xgl and used the "# 2.1.2 Method 2 - New GDM entry starts GNOME with XGL" since I want to be able to run gnome sometimes to. When I try to start Xgl in GDM it crashes, and in .xsession-errors:

-------------------------------------------------
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/bin/sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers" -h "" -l ":0" "martin"
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Setup done, will execute: /usr/bin/ssh-agent -- /usr/bin/gnome-session
SESSION_MANAGER=local/myhost:/tmp/.ICE-unix/9172

When I press the: show errormessage I get this output:

Re: Trying to run xgl on ati

If you are doing this just for Beryl or Compiz, and don't do many 3D intensive stuff, you could try the open source ATI drivers.  See: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI … TI_Drivers

If you need to use the proprietary drivers, I'm not sure how to get XGL working, maybe someone else can help.

Re: Trying to run xgl on ati

Did you add localhost to your /etc/hosts file?

Re: Trying to run xgl on ati

The open source ati driver should solve it. I had the same problem some time ago.
