xorg.conf Where are you?

Hi,
I installed Arch (third time)  and Iam not able to find xorg, conf. I installed Arch from full cd. In /etc/X11/  are these directories only: fs  rstart  sessions  twm  xdm  xinit  xsm

Does anybody know where I can find the X config (using XORG7)

Re: xorg.conf Where are you?

There isn't one created automatically. Use "X -configure" to get one created as a starting point.

Re: xorg.conf Where are you?

Please copy and paste you xorg.conf here. smile
Make sure you changed the resolutions under all the bit depths.

Re: xorg.conf Where are you?

in the Screen-section, you've got DefaultColorDepth set to 16, but the Modes-line for Depth 16 (in the same section) doesn't contain "1280x800"

2 options:
1. set DefaultColorDepth to 24
2. add "1280x800" to modes for depth 16

Stand back, intruder, or i'll blast you out of space! I am Klixon and I don't want any dealings with you human lifeforms. I'm a cyborg!

Re: xorg.conf Where are you?

didnt help. I mean that X uses another xorg.conf from some other directory than from /et/X11/xorg.conf

Re: xorg.conf Where are you?

No, xorg will use the one and only in /etc/X11

Re: xorg.conf Where are you?

What a messy file...If I were you I'd delete all the modelines that you wont ever use (like the 640x480 and such) and make the file a bit more readable, you'll find the mistakes a lot faster that way.
You're also using the vesa driver which isn't capable of much, it's a "work on every hardware" driver but it can only do limited stuff.
I'd install and use the better driver for your video card if possible.

Re: xorg.conf Where are you?

I like to use the X autoconfig instead of hwd, I've never had a problem with it.
Run as root without X:

X -configure

It will create an xorg.conf.new in the current directory.  Maybe you could give it a shot.

Re: xorg.conf Where are you?
