best kernel for audio/video production

from what i have read, a real time would prolly be the best, or low latencey or something...  but i have no idea really. some help would be greatly appreciated.

currently just using the regular kernel26
should i just go to a different distro? (jad, 64studio, etc) or will arch kick ass in this side of things as well, itching to use the proaudio repo.. (which i believe has a realtime patch, but i have no idea how to run two kernels side by side)

thanks in advance.

Re: best kernel for audio/video production

The kernel got low latency support in 2.6.18, it would smart of you to use(or everyone) the kernel with the -ck patchset which improves teh responsiveness a lot.

Re: best kernel for audio/video production

i was just reading the ck site and they said their last patch was going to be for 2.6.22.. does that mean .22 or above will have this built in? or is it just dead... (this is just curiosity, i don't NEED the cutting edge kernels all the time)

Re: best kernel for audio/video production

I have 2.6.22 kernel with CFS v19 scheduler and I feel that my system is a lot more responsive than 2.6.21 with ck patchset. If you are interrested, you can find CFS here: http://people.redhat.com/mingo/cfs-scheduler/

Re: best kernel for audio/video production

You should give the RT Kernel a go. Check out the ProAudio thread.
