fglrx + mesa problem

Hi

I'm having problems getting my fglrx working properly on my laptop, with Radeon 200M graphics card. I can't get it to use the ATI drivers. I've had a look around the forum at the solutions other people have had to this problem and none of them seem to work.
I've included everything that I think might be relevant.

For the output of fglrxinfo I get

Maybe posting the entire xorg log and config files might help.
Also, what's the output of dmesg | grep fglrx

That's odd - your logs show nothing that would indicate DRI failure.

Are you using XGL?
What's the output of

hm.. That looks fine too... this is a real shot-in-the-dark, but what happens if you rename the libGLU.so.1 away from /opt/google-earth before starting X?

I assume /usr/lib/libGL.so is owned by fglrx-utils?  Maybe try reinstalling fglrx-utils - pacman -Sf fglrx-utils.

I admit, I'm running out of ideas.  Your card should be supported, afaik.

Neither does reinstalling fglrx-utils (3rd time today I've done that)
/usr/lib/libGL.so is owned by root. Are you saying I need a user called fglrx-utils then? Or should I give ownership to my "video" group?

ohh, sorry, I was unclear.  When I say "owned" I mean which package owns it - you can verify this with pacman -Qo /path/to/file - but if you've reinstalled fglrx-utils a few times already I think the owner will be fglrx-utils.

I'll keep thinking about this, but for the moment I'm stumped, sorry.

I've done a bit more research and there seems to be a driver issue with this card. Specifically to do with memory

It is different in a few areas. Also make sure you add fglrx to the modules section of the rc.conf file.

tcmdvm - I've changed my xorg.conf to be almost identical to your version, and still no luck. What version of fglrx are you using?

I am using version 8.37.6, but it is custom built for use with the fallen kernel. However, I haven't had any problems using the previous versions for the past 6 months.

If you are trying to start by using startx, you have to install xterm or it surely won't work.  If you try starting with startx and it doesn't work, does it give any error messages?

Keep trying sooner or later you will get it to work.
