chroot complete system

Hello everyone.

Unfortunately the motherboard on my server died a couple of weeks ago. The plan is to get my desktop PC to take over temporarily until I can fix it. I've taken the HDD out of the server and mounted it under /mnt/server on my PC. I've tried chrooting to /mnt/server and starting services there, but they don't want to know- they either die (and I can't find any errors) or they start and then die silently.

If I look on the internet for anything containing chroot I just get pages on how to run a particular service inside it's own chroot, rather than running a complete system as a backup measure.

Does anyone know if this is possible at all? And if so, how do I go about it?

Thanks
Simon
