NVIDIA X driver

I'm having a strange problem with my Nvidia card. I freshly reinstalled Arch from 64 to 32, everything was working fine i simply wanted more program options. I never had this problem with my previous installation.

I'm running xgl and everything seems to be working fine, beryl works fine too but.

Everytime I would open up NVIDIA X Server Setting I would encounter an error message:

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.

running nvidia-xconfig in or out of x says the xorg.conf is rewritten but I still get the error.

I've followed the wiki but I'm stumped as to where I messed up.

My Video Card is...

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G70 [GeForce 7600 GT] (rev a1)

my xorg.conf...

Re: NVIDIA X driver

just a shot in the dark, but maybe you're running the wrong nvidia drivers? see `# pacman -Ss nvidia`

Re: NVIDIA X driver

i had the same problem, insert into your /etc/xorg.conf (as root) in "Section  "Screen"" something like:

Section "Screen"
    Identifier     "Screen0"
    Device         "Videocard0"
    Monitor        "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth    24
    SubSection     "Display"
        Viewport    0 0
        Depth       24
        Modes      "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1280x800" "1152x864" "1152x768" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubSection
EndSection

Note the "Modes VVVxHHH ..." line, that was my solution, after inserting it.

DON'T copy the line above, you have to find out what you card/monitor can do!

helpful?
