Is Java in the repository or how do I install it?

I have never successfully installed Java in Linux unless there is a repository package or it come installed. It seems to me that the Sun instructions are missing newbie information for sure.

I have not installed Arch yet. I need to know if Java, win32 codecs, Flash, Mplayer, VLC and libdvdcss are installed or if these are easy to install from the repository, etc... I am not a Free Software Foundation guy, I want my OS to play and do everything that it can.

Thanks,

B.

Note that the flashplugin and (the official) javaplugin for the browsers are only working under Arch 32-bit. There's open source alternatives for 64-bit, but gnash (for flash) isn't 100% compatible with all flash stuff just yet. Not sure about the current state of the open source java compilers/plugins.

also, if you want to know what packages we have, the package search on the top-right corner of the main page (http://www.archlinux.org) works wonderfully.  smile

Jameica still needs jre, can't run with gcj or how it is called. This is the only example I got on my PC that comes to my mind.
