LILO gives Fatal : raid_setup : stat ("dev/hda")

Yesterday i did an "pacman -Syu"
And my system got updated. However it seems to load my old 2.6.17-7-1 kernel in stead off the new 2.6.21 kernel. Thus the system gives me a kernel panic.
These are the last lines before the panic:

umount: initrd No such file or directory
umount: initrd No such file or directory
Linuxrc: 490 /sbin/busybox: not found
Freeing unused kernel memory: 244k freed
/bin/sh: can't open auto
Kernel panic not syncing: attemped to kill init!

Using the my old trusty "gimmick" CD i boot and chroot into the system and then try to correct the error by editing lilo.conf.
However when i try to run /sbin/lilo i get the folowing error.

LILO gives Fatal : raid_setup : stat ("dev/hda")

This is very curious since the machine has no raid systems what so ever and just only one HardDisk.
The machine is an old Toshiba Tecra 8100 which needs the piix drivers to work. If anyone has a clue where i should look to find the cullprit please share your ideas wink
