When I installed Arch on my laptop (HP zv5445us), I was impressed how good the fonts looked - nice and crisp. I thought I'd plug and external keyboard and external flat-panel monitor in to it, so I could type a little closer to the screen (my only gripe with laptops). I have a 19" Acer flatpanel that has different dimensions than the laptops montor, the flapanel is square while the laptops is "wide-screen". So I re-ran "hwd -u" and "hwd -xa", then restarted X-windows. The fonts turned really ugly and small. I expanded them with Ctrl-+, and they looked better, but things like the URL address bar in Firefox still have the tiny font.
When I installed, I installed ms, dejavu, and bistream-vera fonts like the guide says to. My xorg.conf has a lot of entries in it for the monitor. I'd like to use the screen at 1024x768 with nice looking fonts.
Any suggestions? Plus - how to juggle having 2 monitors? Swap xorg.confs when the flatpanel is connected and disconnected?

What is the native resolution of the panel? You should really use the resolution that suits the panel for best result and given it is a 19" monitor, 1024x768 sounds abit low.
What dpi is the monitor running with? Try "xdpyinfo | grep resolution" and see what result it outputs. 96x96 is usually a good value which should result in good looking fonts.
