dont panic. its gonna be out soon. a snapshot of the repos isnt that important anyway
There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

We/they are testing all the new pkgs - would you prefer we/they just released it and it was full of bugs?

soon is hours/days/weeks/month/years/decade;)

What do you need it for anyway? We have a rolling-release-system as you might or might not know. It's done when it's done! And besides: the only groundbreaking new thing would be the new kernel which doesn't pack that much of feelable and usable new features anyway.
Todays mistakes are tomorrows catastrophes.

In fact it has to be released within the next 11 days. Otherwise we would call it 2007.08 ;-)

An astute observation indeed

Okay, so I wanted to get my hands on the new kernel (I have these crazy compulsions every so often)
So I uncommented testing in pacman.conf and removed current (probably not necessary).
The issue is that pacman isn't updating the kernel, and searching the testing repo for kernel on the website gives a kernel utility as the only result.
What's going on? Is it being replaced by an updated version?

The latest kernel (2.6.22.1) is in current repo.

Ah, I just discovered that.
Now to recompile to see if new microcode improves my CPU any... (Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with hyperthreading)

I think it's a great name =/

'Don't panic' is at least better than some other distributions' codenames if you ask me.

as you can see on home page, http://www.archlinux.org/, the name changed to 2007.08

Yeah, I rebooted today and it came up "> Arch Linux (Don't Panic)" on the bootscreen ^^.

I think Don't Panic is a great name. Does that mean the next release will be called Mostly Harmless? Now that would be a really be a great name for a linux release.

Dont Panic rulez. I like different, yet with a submessage simply saying "with archlinux, you dont panic".. Its like brainwashing. You might think its only a harmless strange name, but its not! As soon as Archlinux gets more widely used we can control the whole world with submessages hidden in release names! THE WORLD WILL BE OURS!!! MUHAHAHAHA
The ultimate Archlinux release name: "I am your father"

I see one potential problem with the new codename: Don't Panic should be displayed during boot in large, friendly letters, but the default console font, while large, is not as friendly as it could be. Perhaps we should hold the release until we can port Comic Sans to the console.

I simply refuse to believe nobody got my little Hitchhiker joke. Not even polite laughter, you know? Like "Oh, Mostly Harmless, that is ... funny." Man I suck.

Don't Panic, people were getting it. I, for one, have been thinking of The Guide every time I've entered archlinux.org or booted my desktop for the past week. Remember folks, the trick is to fall, and miss the ground.
