DE dependencies and libraries

I know that people say not to run KDE programs in gnome and vice versa, because having to load all the libraries and dependencies slows it down. But if I wanted to keep my options open, and install KDE or GNOME and use it every once in a while, would it put a damper on my normal setup (openbox)? If I'm not using any of the programs that require the extra libraries, would it still slow down my overall PC?

Re: DE dependencies and libraries

If you're not loading any of the libs/applications, it should have no effect on your CPU or memory. The only thing the libs will be doing, is taking up a small bit of HD space. =]
