Need a how-to to set gensplash with kernel26fallen

Hello

The title is expressive, isn't it ? big_smile
I tried yesterday to set splash with the kernel26 fallen :
1) I installed kernel fallen from kano repo
2) I installed gensplash from community , added fbsplash in HOOKs and added SPLASH='gensplash' in rc.conf,
generated.

Here it is my grub kernel entry :

kernel /vmlinuz26fallen root=/dev/sda5 video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,1024x768-32@60 splash=silent,kdgraphics,theme:darch,tty:8 console=tty1 quiet ro

In boot, nothing's new than my classical entry with default kernel. no splash.
What did I forget or misunderstand ?

Thanks for all replies smile

Edit : Thanks Kano for your kernel !!!!

Re: Need a how-to to set gensplash with kernel26fallen

Did you put your theme in /etc/splash/, and put the details of the theme in /etc/minitcpio.conf?  Did you mkinitcpio -p kernel26fallen?

Good howto is in the wiki, under gensplash.  Just replace all references to -beyond  with -fallen

Re: Need a how-to to set gensplash with kernel26fallen

Hi nikron,

I use darch theme, I didn't put anything in /etc/splash ...

I put

HOOKS="...... fbsplash"

     FBTHEMES="darch"
     FBRES="1024x768"

In /etc/minitcpio.conf yes.

But I don't mkinitcpio -p kernel26fallen hmm

I look around later! thanks

Re: Need a how-to to set gensplash with kernel26fallen

I rebooted after a

mkinitcpio -p kernel26fallen

Great !!!! I saw the splash !

I waited 10 minutes and still initalizing the kernel ...
Thought It was freezed so I rebooted under a classic kernel .

I was so close hmm

Well you are gonna have to tell us where it errors out at then if you want our help...   Does it stop at network?  Because when I used fallen and ndiswrapper, that was what stopped me.

In fact,
I could see :
[initializing Kernel ...] at the bottom left corner.
And nothing else.

I am not using ndiswrapper at all.

Is it possible that I put some wrong things in grub entry ?

Very possible - try switching silent to verbose on your grub command line and see if the kernel boots properly - you should see any errors then.
