VMWARE not working after latest kernel upgrade [SOLVED]

I've done a kernel update and after rebooting VMWare was not working. That's "standard", I figured, because I have a new kernel.
So, I run the any_any patch (as usual) to re-configure the VM to the new kernel but this time no joy sad
Is there anyone else having the same problem?
The error seems to be here:

Note: Running /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl is of no help either (same error).

what any_any patch are you running? I got similar errors when I was trying an older version, 112 worked fine for me tho.

Re: VMWARE not working after latest kernel upgrade [SOLVED]

I went to http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/ and the latest patch I found was vmware-any-any-update109.tar.gz
Where did you get the vmware-any-any-update112.tar.gz from?

Why are there still arch users that don't use the PKGBUILDs? Does everyone think they are there just for show?

People use what works for them ... this is not religion, is software.

Yes, and the PKGBUILD works; you wouldn't have had to post on the forum, wait for replies, and then figure it out. It has nothing to do with religion, it's about making use of the tools available for you.

If you are trying to help you may consider being a bit more polite in your messages. Your fist post just came out as rude rant.
You could have said : "BTW there is a PKGBUILD that solves the problem" and that would have been a positive contribution.

Having said that, I have been using Arch for some time now but my experience with the few PKBUILDs I tried was less that stellar ... roll so, I use what works for me, and the any_any_patch works.

You'd rather say "I, myself, me, thinks it works".
Because it does not work for many people, including me.
The modules do build with kernel 2.6.22.X, but the network behaviour using bridged networking is extremely clumsy (used to work fine with 2.6.21.X), and shared folders are a pain in the butt- for example whenever I try to copy a file from the guest to a host shared folder, the guest OS (winXP) comes close to totally freezing, and I have to kill explorer to stop the transaction.
Do you call THAT "works"?
IMO the issues with kernel 2.6.22 won't be addressed before a new VMWare version is out... Until then, yeah... the old version/PKGBUILD works... tongue
I'm close to ditching VMWare in favour of VirtualBox, but a couple of VMWare features (mainly related to low level hardware access) still prevent me from doing so.

Talk about semantics. Let me be clear: the PKGBUILD works as much as if you found a patch and did it yourself. I'm well aware that vmware isn't working perfectly because i had to switch from wireless to ethernet in order to get bridged networking to work myself. My only point is that you, trying to do things without the PKGBUILD, are no better off than had you used the PKGBUILD.

Understand? Lets not take this conversation out of context here.

Do you know of a fix for the wifi-bridged networking problem with kernels after 2.6.21? I'd like to go ahead and update my kernel, but I had to revert since I couldn't get wifi networking to work properly, as it always has with previous kernels. The latest any-any-update (113?) didn't help.

Thanks.

My networking problems with kernel 2.6.22 and VMWare Workstation have been solved by the newest VMWare release, version 6.0.1 build-55017.
