I've upgrade ppp from ppp-2.4.4-3 to ppp-2.4.4-4 some hours ago. After reboot I lost my ADSL PPPoE connection. I founded such errors in log:
[root@admin-nb rc.d]# cat /var/log/messages.log|grep pppoe-connect
Jul 30 00:01:31 admin-nb pppoe-connect: PPPoE connection lost; attempting re-connection.
Jul 30 00:01:36 admin-nb pppoe-connect: PPPoE connection lost; attempting re-connection.
Jul 30 00:01:41 admin-nb pppoe-connect: PPPoE connection lost; attempting re-connection.
Jul 30 00:01:46 admin-nb pppoe-connect: PPPoE connection lost; attempting re-connection.
Jul 30 00:01:51 admin-nb pppoe-connect: PPPoE connection lost; attempting re-connection.
Jul 30 00:01:56 admin-nb pppoe-connect: PPPoE connection lost; attempting re-connection.
Jul 30 00:02:01 admin-nb pppoe-connect: PPPoE connection lost; attempting re-connection.
Then I roll back to ppp-2.4.4-3 and all works again. Anybody can confirm this?

My internet connection stopped working last Friday after having upgraded alsa, libpcap, xorg-server-utils and xorg-xkb-utils the day before. First I thought my ISP was doing some maintenance work (which happens every now and then on Friday nights), so I waited until today. Booting into Zenwalk revealed that my internet connection was working, so I chroot'ed into my Arch partition and did a system update. One of the packages was ppp-2.4.4-3 to -4. After that, everything was working again.
I don't knwo which of the above packages broke my system, but I suspect libpcap.

Don't panic!

ppp needed to be recompiled against the new libpcap, so similar thing happened here: upgraded libpcap, pppoe stopped working; upgraded ppp, pppoe started working again.
