Making a lightweight Arch

Hi all !

I plan to install Arch on an old Pentium II-based system. I want a lightweight desktop only for browsing & IRCing. So I'm looking for things like Openbox, Fluxbox... I want a right-click menu and a small "taskbar" to access running apps easily and that's all.

Can you help me to find the best Arch in this way for an old computer ?

Re: Making a lightweight Arch

Install a base system, then install xorg, openbox and pypanel, add all apps you want and you're done. Arch is very bare bone when you install it.

Re: Making a lightweight Arch

Arch is optimized towards i686, isn't it? May I ask if PII is i686 or i486?

Backwards compability is always there with Arch, but I'm curious if it's optimized towards usage with PII.

Re: Making a lightweight Arch

About pekwm I think pekwm is even lighter, moreover it is easy to configure and maintain.
As login manager I advice you slim.
Browsing? Opera version 7 is probably the fastest choice, but it has problems with css so it is not very usable...
IRC? It is plenty of ncurses based clients, no problem.
