Linux compatible Hardware Advice needed in Denmark

Hello guys,

I am planning to buy a cheap PC for about 300 US$. This is the configuration for the machine:

processor: Intel P4 3000MHz 64 bit S-775
Motherboard: Biostar P4M890-M7 S-775
RAM: 512MB DDR2 PC5400 667MHz 1. Part
HD: 80GB Maxtor 7200rpm SATA2
CD-DRIVE: 48x16x Lite-On DVD Sort

I would like to know whether I can install arch-linux/any linux on this machine. I would really like to have your comment as soon as possible, because this cheap offer may run-off shortly. Sorry if this is not the right place to post this query. Also share any bad experiences with the components in the above mentioned assembly list.

Thanks,
GnB

Re: Linux compatible Hardware Advice needed in Denmark

The motherboard in that system uses a via chipset and there have been a few users that had minor problems with intel/via combinations.

Other than that everything looks ok.

Maybe you can try it with out a linux livecd ?
Knoppix and archlinux's archie would be good choices.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
