Kernel developing...where to start?

I'd like to help the developement of linux kernel.
Where can I find info about how the developement is mantained and how to and to whom send patch?
I think that first I need to see the kernel itself and then focus on one aspect in the X86_64 section(I'm on arch64)
So If only you can give me some hint....
