Good evening everybody,
I'm having since a few weeks some very strange problems with one directory on my hard disk: '/home/evert/Music/'.
The problem is that this directory excists, with all it's subfolders. But i can't see a single file (mostly mp3's) in that folder or subfolders.
Some more background information to make sure i'm not doing something wrong :
http://pastebin.be/4419 : the log file of a 'mpd --create-db' command. This clearly shows that mpd fills his database with the music. And even more, i'm able to play all that music.
evert@localhost ~/Music $ du --max-depth=1 -h -c | tail -n 1
15G total
So this folder really excists and is filled with a lot of music files normally .
evert@localhost ~/Music/Metallica/loaded $ ls -a
. ..
Strange ? In this folder really was music acording to the mpd --create-db log file ?!
drwxr-xr-x 161 evert users 8192 2007-08-10 17:57 Music
As user i'm having all rights to this folder, so that isn't the fault.
Even when trying to see the files, neither konq in su mode or MC works.
Anybody who knows something more about this problem or could help me a bith further pls ? I'm running XFS as filesystem on this partition.
Thanks in advance,
Evert

Using find ~/Music , you don't see any files ?
pacman roulette : pacman -S $(pacman -Slq | LANG=C sort -R | head -n $((RANDOM % 10)))

You don't have a weird alias for 'ls' that makes it break do you?

No ofcourse not, i even wouldn't know how to make 'weird aliases' .

You don't have anything in ~/Music/Metallica/loaded but you have stuff in ~/Music/Music/Metallica/loaded
It's really an awful mess, I would suggest you clean your music folders.
Btw for searching filenames, you can do something like : find ~/Music -iname "metallica"
iname for case insensitive, name for case sensitive
pacman roulette : pacman -S $(pacman -Slq | LANG=C sort -R | head -n $((RANDOM % 10)))

If his home is as messy as his $HOME, then yes, totally.
pacman roulette : pacman -S $(pacman -Slq | LANG=C sort -R | head -n $((RANDOM % 10)))

Ok, really thanks. My music was indeed in /home/evert/Music/Muisc, i wouldn't know how it got there. But the most important thing is that i got it back.
I shall clean my /home , my /Music and my 'real home' today. Thanks for that tip, it was quite necessary.

Nevermind. I didn't see the [SOLVED] post, so I posted some suggestions that are now irrelevant.
Anyway, equally good luck with cleaning your home ... you may find a long lost $100 bill in the process.
