shuting down in gnome with SLiM and Pidgin

Hi,

1st Gnome and SLiM
I am using GNOME and SLiM. The problem is that i can not rebbot nor shutdown the computer from GNOME. Is there a way to get this working?


2nd Pidgin
How do i get the chat windows to "blink" when i get new messeges?

1st: have you started up /etc/rc.d/network ? i can't logout nor shutdown from gnome if i haven't started that up, although it's true i use gdm

Thanks, but

[root@Salao /]# /etc/rc.d/network start
Network is already running.  Try 'network restart'

So its started, i guess. More ideas...
