I am trying to install "2007.08 (Don't Panic) BASE" ArchLinux on my ThinkPad 600X laptop. Trouble is, that I can't get IP from DHCP server during the install. In "Configure Network" step I configured my network card (it's Edimax EP-4103DL) without problem, the script said that it has received all from DHCP server, but it isn't true. When I run ifconfig, the IP has some default value (169.254.100.180). I tried set IP manually, but without success.
I alse tried older Ubuntu Dapper installation - and Ubuntu can install network without problem - everything works fine.
My Ubuntu use 2.6.15-26-386 kernel. It is possible, that my older ThinkPad hasn't support in newer kernel? Should I download older Archlinux 2007.05?
BTW: I looked which modules are loaded in Ubuntu, but I don't understand it at all. In ArchLinux everything looks fine, maybe some problems with pcmcia slot modules.
Thanks for every reply.
I hope I use right forum.
EDIT:
maybe it could help:
# hwdetect --show-net
Net : 8139cp 8139too mii ppp_generic slhc

Well, I tried some older versions with older kernels without success. I am not masochist to start playing with modules ( - means I am not smart enough to understand all "modprobe, lsmod, hwdetec" and play with them ).
BTW, I had same problem during installation of last version of Debian.

OK folks, I solve it :)
Problem is in some PCI bus on Intel motherboard or some junk like this.
For correct install boot with "pci=noacpi" into kernel. Which means after boot from ArchLinux CD type "arch pci=noacpi" and enjoy.
Btw, more at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ost2871256.
