After installing:
pam-0.99.8.1-3.1.pkg
gksu don't work.
(gksu in sudo mode)
gconf-editor
/apps/gksu sudo-mode
Downgrade to pam-0.81-4.pkg
and gksu work again.

Same thing here.
Your trick works fine for gksu. The problem is that sudo and, maybe, other apps in official repos are now compiled against pam-0.99.8.1, so when you downgrade, they may behave in a strange maner. That's the case for sudo which then displays the following message : "sudo: /lib/libpam.so.0: no version information available (required by sudo)
".
I have tried to recompile libgksu and gksu on my system. No success : gksu does not work anymore.
I have notified this problem in a bug report ("gksu hangs", severity : medium).

Downgrade to pam-0.81-4.pkg and
rebuild sudo-1.6.9p4-1-i686.pkg with ABS (makepkg)
and all work fine,
no more
"sudo: /lib/libpam.so.0: no version information available (required by sudo)".
message.
You can add in /etc/pacman.conf
in [options]
IgnorePkg = pam
to prevent update.
Waiting for a working pam package.
(Sorry for my ugly english, i'm italian)

Investigating further, it appears that the problem comes from the fact sudo now translates the password prompt. The result is that gksu doesn't work anymore in this case.
See : http://groups.google.com/group/linux.de … 9be056d911
Could this be fixed with a patch in sudo package ? gksu is totally unusable in sudo mode on non-english locales.
