delay because of 64bit repositories ?

Hi all,
I thought I sould better make sure I have not mis-configured something or chosen a bad mirror: Is it normal that although on the arch homepage package updates for, say vim and kernel26 are announced, packman -Syu doesn't suggest to do any upgrade on my x86_64 system? If so, and if, as I suspect, it is just a delay until the packages are ready on the 64bit repo, how long does it usually take?

TIA,
Andreas

Re: delay because of 64bit repositories ?

It could be that your mirror hasn't synced yet, however there probably is a small delay for 64-bit packages, but I don't really notice it nor see it as a problem. I just do 'pacman -Syu' once a day too keep my system fit, if something is shown as updated on the homepage and not covered in the upgrade I'll just get it the next day.

Re: delay because of 64bit repositories ?

yes, it's normal. Not all dev have a x86_64 system so there is a delay between the time the x86_64 package hit the repo. The delay is usually 1 day or less but can go up to a few days depending how busy the x86_64 devs are, the number of packages to update, if there is an issue with the x86_64 package, etc.

Re: delay because of 64bit repositories ?

Thanks for both your answers. That eases me somewhat -- I have discovered some discussions about Arch64 only after the fact (of installing the 64bit version), so I was beginning to wonder if it was the right thing to go for. Now I really do think it was.

However... I am not sure I understand everything right. AFAICT, as of now (2007-08-26, 08:30 CET), gvim is in current and at version no. 7.1.87-1, and so is kernel26 at 2.6.22.5-1, whereas I have 7.1.79-1 and 2.6.22.4-2, respectively.  They have been updated 2007-08-22 and 2007-08-23.
But neither a pacman -Syu on my box nor even http://www.archlinux.org/~andyrtr/pkg_diff.html show any discrepancies (that page listing updates until 2006-08-25 at the most recent).

If you say everything's fine, then I'll just assume these packages are indeed up to date in the repos but the mirrors need to catch up, but I want to make sure I understand it right and have looked at the right places to verify.

Thanks for your patience,
Andreas

Re: delay because of 64bit repositories ?

Running Arch64:

$ pacman -Ss gvim
current/gvim 7.1.87-1

$ pacman -Ss kernel26
current/kernel26 2.6.22.5-1

Thus, your mirror seems outdated.

I've switched mirrors and lo and behold, now the current packages are there (just being dl'ed). (Changed from ftp.tu-chemnitz.de to ftp.hosteurope.de FWIW)

Thanks for your help,
Andreas
