xvidcore is really slow!

Is anyone experiencing the same problems with xvidcore?
I am using dvd::rip to convert a video.

Loading the project in Ubuntu and hitting "Transcode" gives me 19 fps.
Loading the same project in Arch and hitting "Transcode" gives me only 9 fps.

So Ubuntu does it twice as fast. Can you imagine why?
Recompilation of xvidcore didn't help.
