KDE sound: jackd & arts - Or how can I get KDE to use Jack for sound

Hello,

I use jack audio connection kit to run some music apps (rosegarden, linuxsampler). The problem is, when jack is running I can hear no audio from apps other than those connected to jack specifically. KDE sounds don't work, nor does VLC, nor flash videos in firefox, etc.

I would like to have jack run all the time and all apps to output sound through it.

There is an option in KDE control center to output to jack, but it doesn't seem to work. Pressing the test sound button gives a crash handler message (don't have the debug symbols so nothing useful there). Before pressing the button, artsd appears within jack as a readable & writable client, which would be exactly what I need if only it actually worked.

Thanks for any help!

Sorry, no clue.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
