Graveman freezes at startup, see screenshot. My user is in "optical" group, wodim works fine (from console). So why it happens?

It not helps, Graveman writes to console:
umount: /dev/sr0 is not mounted (according to mtab)
...and freezes

Oh another option that i did was build a cdrtools package remove cdrkit and install the new cdrtools package and set my graveman config then remove cdrtools and reinstall cdrkit. Not easy but it worked. Issue is even though you have a cdrecord it is actually a executable called wodim which is copied to cdrtools then symlinked to wodim. Also graveman is no longer maintained.
Hope that all helps.

The part you change is
name=MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-841S Removable CD-ROM
You change the name to you cd burnders name. I forget the command off hand to list the name for you cdburner...maybe someone else can provide that.

I understood... It is better to use console tools, i think... It's not so complicated! There is some articles at Arch-wiki: CD Burning Tips, DVD writing
Thanks, shen!

Ok if you do cdrecord -checkdrive it will list the info you need..look for Vendor_Info,Identification to get the first part of name then add Removable CD-ROM to the end of it and you should be set. Hope it helps that is the best I can do atm without digging more

I just checked and even though graveman on my laptop starts up OK, it doesn't want to burn any CDs, so I just installed xfburn for now... Is there anything particular about graveman that prevents you from switching to another application?
Offline
Yeah, graveman in arch has been broken for quite a while now. I've been getting the same freezes as the OP for several months, so I finally gave up on it and went back to command line burns. It's just easier that way.

There is nothing particular, but i don't want to change all Xfce to svn-version because of Xfburn only
Maybe there is another burning applications? I just need to burn CD/DVD, some settings, and without Gnome and KDE libs.

maybe try bashburn

I just encountered the same problem tonight. Reaching back into my memory, I recalled both XCDRoast and GnomeBaker.
I loaded up GnomeBaker and it works wonderfully. You don't have to be running Gnome to use it. I have used it from both KDE and XFCE4. Of course if you are using KDE, there is always good 'ol K3B, still a favorite.
XCDRoast is an old timer with a very strange (by modern standards) interface. It will get the job done, and it is lighter and faster than the rest, but it takes some getting used to!

I don't use Gnome or KDE (hate those monsters, sorry), so i don't like "special" Gnome- or KDE- applications, because of its special-full-featured-and-very-BIG libs. I like desktop-independed applications (such as Graveman).
K3b - the best, but requires KDE libs.
GnomeBaker requires Gnome libs.
Graveman is buggy.
XCDRoast really very strange...
Xfburn exist as svn-version only.
HacBurn - cool, but for CD only.
Bashburn is a good tool, but console and for CD only (or not?).
What else?

Brasero (Gnome)

if arch would keep the original cdrecord then graveman would work fine. All the new modern burning apps like brasero and k3b all now use wodim which has replaced cdrecord as far as I can tell anyways.

Brasero (Gnome)
Brasero requires Gnome libs, it's about 31 MB (full Gnome 90 MB)
GnomeBaker requires Gnome libs, it's about 21 MB
K3b requires KDE libs, it's about 40 MB (full KDE 240 MB)
I don't need this libs!
I think, GUI frontend for cdrkit and dvd+rw-tools must be very small, fast and independed (of monsters like KDE or Gnome). For examlpe:
Graveman - 2 MB
XCDRoast - 1.5 MB
HacBurn - 3 MB

only problem is none of those 3 are maintained any longer. Xcdroast might still be maintained.

Here is an idea...
Check out the AUR page for xfburn-svn, in one of the comments there (the last one, at the moment) there is a link to a package that doesn't have all the xfve4-svn dependencies, I think. Apparently the dependencies of xfburn are to be revised in the future, but meanwhile that package was offered as a temporary solution. I haven't actually tried it, personally I use just a few xfce apps so I didn't mind changing thunar, mousepad and some xfce libs to svn versions, but this alternative package might be something that could work in you situation...
I agree though - there seems to be a deficit of good light-weight burning apps, especially for people who don't use Gnome or KDE.

I know that it's quite dead topic but I won a "battle" with Graveman and I really hope I won a "war" too
How to make Graveman usefully? Answer is in this topic
1. Run:
cdrecord -checkdrive
And write down what is in Detected CD-R drive: (for me it's /dev/cdrw).
2. As root run graveman.
3. Go to File > Preferences... > Devices and add your CD burners
4. Add drive by yourself. As Name write anything (it can be just DVD or a full name of your drive). As Device write value from 1 step
5. Close Graveman and run it as normal user.
6. Check if there still is tour drive.
7. Burn! Burn!
As I said, for me it works
Kermit.

you are able to burn both cds and dvds ?
also do you use the stock ARCH kernel & the cdrkit package from extra?

For me Graveman works as usual:
- window: Scanning drive "PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112 Removable CD-ROM"...
- console: umount: /dev/sr0: not mounted
- CPU usage up to 94% (by cdrecord)
As far as i know, Graveman uses some cdrecord parameters, that wodim doesn't support.
P.S. At this moment i use isomaster (simple ISO-image editor) and small set of console commands to burn CD/DVD.
