Sound problem: AC3 works, but nothing else.

Hi,

I have a setup of digital speakers connected via optical out (spdif) and everything is working fine whenever I play dvd's or divx/xvid with AC3. The strangest thing is, everything else like mp3/ogg/wav (labeled "s16le" with mplayer) is not working at all! This drives me crazy, I don't even know where to start. I'm guessing it's not ALSA, since sound really is working in some cases...

I should mention I didn't have any problems at all when I first installed arch, but then one day I did "pacman -Syu" and this happened. Unfortunately I don't have any logs of what got updated at that time. My bet is it updated the kernel from 2.6.21 to 2.6.22.

Please, any help appreciated!
