[SOLVED] CD/DVD data recovery

HI! i need to recover data from a dvd with a file i cant copy to my hdd, i see a liiiittle scratch in the disk, and i remember a tool in M$ called cdroller that tries and tries to copy until you get a copy of the file to the disk... just wondering if anyone knows a tool like that... (the file is a mpeg file) tried to open the file with avidemux and it opens and saves to disk... but when played, it has a lot of stuttering that dont has if i plays the file from the disk... (no, i cant recover the file anywhere else tongue)

Re: [SOLVED] CD/DVD data recovery

Try rsync -P or ddrescue.

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Backup_a_DVD

*****************
ddrescue

If the disk is damaged, ddrescue might also be useful. To install ddrescue:

emerge ddrescue

To read the disk, or at least what can be read of it:

ddrescue /dev/dvd DVD.iso DVD.log

If ddrescue reports errors, try a second pass with direct disc access activated:

ddrescue -d -r1 /dev/dvd DVD.iso DVD.log

Example output:

Press Ctrl-C to interrupt
Initial status (read from logfile)
rescued:         0 B,  errsize:       0 B,  errors:       0
Current status
rescued:   458027 kB,  errsize:    337 MB,  current rate:    1511 kB/s
   ipos:   795410 kB,   errors:    6221,    average rate:    1495 kB/s
   opos:   795410 kB

ddrescue also maintains a log file, so it is possible to pause and resume the rescue process.
