Strange OpenOffice bug; considering alternatives

Hi. I have a problem with OpenOffice and couldn't figure out where to post this notice.

I'm running Arch 64 Don't Panic, with the 2.6.22-6 kernel and OpenOffice 2.2.1 Arch build 3. Whenever I go to change an element's border, OpenOffice crashes. For example, I start a new text document, Type a few things in, select the paragraph, go to Format -> Paragraph... and then click on Border. That's when the entire application crashes. It does this every single time. I'm unsure what's causing the problem, and it's important that I'm able to work with the formatting of objects.

In the mean time, I have Office 2007 on my Windows hard-drive, but I would like some compatibility between the two hard drives in reference to office documents. Are there any other office suites out there that have decent compatibility with MS Office? I'm not expecting 2007 compatibility, since it just came out recently.

If anyone could provide some insight or solutions, I'd much appreciate it.

AndyRTR: I'm downloading the new OpenOffice right now. It's a pretty big download, though. >_>; I'll let you know if the new version helps anything.

Well, I just tried applying a border to a paragraph and it worked fine. Thanks for the suggestion!
