Yeah, something like that It's 7.2 with a 1.3.0 server if that makes any sence.

So what is 1.3.0? 7.2 1/2 ?
xorg-server 1.3.0.0 is a stable release in between 7.2 & 7.3. While coming with a bunch of fixes and new features, it doesn't break backwards compatibility like xorg-server 1.4 does. The latter expects ABI changes in itself reflected in all drivers which wasn't the case at the time 1.3.0.0 was released. That is also why not all drivers, protos or libraries are up to date in either current or testing just yet.
7.3 will hit testing as soon as all nvidias and fglrx work without this nasty -ignoreABI workaround.

Thanks!

1.3.0 is just a version of xorg-server.
xorg 7.3 is set of specific versions of each part of xorg.

Cerebral wrote:On a side note, why is everyone so anxious to kill their xorg.conf files? Tons of apps on your system use conf files (heck, init uses one - rc.conf) - why is xorg.conf so undesirable? If you have one that works great, why kill it because xorg now does some fancy autodetect support?
Because pretty much no one has one that works great. Honestly I've never seen something that is so powerful, so necessary and with such sporadic documentation (and so many different configuration tools which all work so differently).
I'm short, it's confusing as all hell.
Mine has worked fine for the last year or so with no need for modification.

New nvidia driver (100.14.19) are out guys. They work perfectly with X.org 7.3 and vastly improved Compiz performance (120fps while spinning the cube with 100.14.11 vs ~400 or so with the new drivers)

With 100.14.11, Fusion-icon "Indirect Rendering" option was unusable for the same reason causing the infamous "black window bug". I had to work without that option. With 100.14.19, they fixed that bug (and they fixed the nastiest nVidia bug ever, the "console restore black screen, click & crash bug"), and, with that bug fixed, I enabled Indirect Rendering. The change was indeed extreme. Before, Compiz crashed, made X crash, and made the driver crash (and, after 2 reboots of trying to get it working, it was choppy as hell). After 100.14.19, I don't really know how many FPS I am getting, but they are too many (FX 5500 here, you are going to get better results).
Is X11R7.3 ready for main repos now?
EDIT: I was losing a LOT of FPS running RTCW with Compiz running. With 100.14.19 and Indirect Rendering, I'm losing almost none. What's happening?
EDIT 2: 100.14.19 is passing my other nVidia failing test: trying to switch modes with libvisual under Amarok and Compiz... this is AWESOME!

Do the legacy NVIDIA drivers work with the new Xorg yet? If they don't, moving 7.3 from testing would break a lot of setups, including mine.

Xorg-server 1.3.0 seems to have been a 'testing' version. If you check Xorg's mirrors, 1.3.0 is not on there, just 1.2.0 & 1.4.0.
Debian stable will update it faster than Arch :\
Then use it.

There is no XOrg 7.3 in testing, only xorg-server 1.3, which is not part of XOrg 7.3 (this would be xorg-server 1.4).

i think if you add this mirror at the top of pacman.conf and sync you'll get the latest everything though(it's what i'm using and i have Xorg -version reporting 1.4) :

iirc indirect rendering takes the burden of dealing with and calculating everything necessary for compiz to function off of the gfx card and dumps it onto the cpu. That is why you get better FPS runnint RCTW because instead of having to deal with compiz in the background, your gfx card can focus on one task... modeling everything in that 3d game.

I have FX 5500 too, but I've been using the 8775 version since the newer ones won't handle the proper widescreen resolution with my monitor through DVI. Looks like I'll wait for 100.14.19 to come out. Thanks for the heads up!
