Conky Config

I have just installed Conky. Where can I find the config file it is using right now? I don't have a ~/.conkyrc....

Re: Conky Config

You can copy /etc/conkyrc.sample as ~/.conkyrc if you're looking for a starting point.

Re: Conky Config

Conky will run without a .conkyrc but just in the default layout.  If you want to change the default you'll have to create a ~/.conkyrc.  There's lots of samples if you look through the Screenshots threads in the Artwork Section.

Re: Conky Config

tip 231234: it's always nice to do a `pacman -Ql <pkg> | less` to see what files came along with the package you just installed

Re: Conky Config

Actually, right now I've got a setup I am quite pleased with except for the fact that I cannot see the correct chinese characters in the song names for my chinese songs when they are playing in mpd. My linux locale is set to UTF-8 and the titles show up perfectly in sonata...

I've tried making a ~/.conkyrc with the lines...

use_xft yes
override_utf8_locale yes

But all that does is change my text size; I still have the problem trying to show UTF-8 song names...

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Re: Conky Config

Don't you still need a chinese font even with using utf-8?

Re: Conky Config

ya; usually i get a bunch of crazy symbols, but if i use that "use_xft" and "override_utf8_locale", I get squares instead of the actual characters... am i doing something wrong?

well my guess is you need to select a font with chinese letters tongue

check character map program in gnome for example to find if a font  has chinese letters or not tongue

Re: Conky Config

Thanks for the suggestion. I switched the font to Monospace, which I use in gedit because it has full support for the Chinese characters. However, I am still having the problem. I've uploaded a screenshot here...

Re: Conky Config

Actually, I wouldn't mind simply removing the MPD section. Does anyone know how to do that?

Re: Conky Config

(I think) Removing that would require you to make a custom theme, so you would have to find a theme similar to the default one (or one you find suits you) and then remove that section.

As Thrillhouse wrote, the screenshots page will give you a good start. (just chose the one you think seems nice, download that file as ~/.conkyrc and remove the MPD part if it's there)
