pacman -Syu "delays"

Whenever there are new packages posted on the main Arch page, it always take some time (hours... days) before pacman -Syu picks it up.  As an exemple, inkscape 0.45.1-4 is just out and when I do pacman -Sy inkscape I get : inkscape-0.45.1-3: local version is up to date. Upgrade anyway?

The mirror that you use pulls from the main server after some delay probably... Use the main arch server if the speed doesn't bother you.

The slower your mirror is to sync the better. That way, many people can test packages before you, and you can be aware of issues before upgrading by checking forums / irc smile

This is silly - the "main arch server" (ie. ftp.archlinux.org) syncs like every other mirror - there's no guarantee it's immediately up-to-date.

Re: pacman -Syu "delays"

That's how i thought it should be. It syncs faster (a whole 9-12 hours faster) then my local mirror anyway.

Re: pacman -Syu "delays"

change mirror, if ur in europe belnet seems to be the fastest syncing .. i live in the uk and i get my maximal download speed even though it so far away ... so local doesn't have to mean the same country wink

Re: pacman -Syu "delays"

Of course every mirror has it's own update policy. I use EasyNews in America for my primary. It starts to update around 5:00 PM MST every day. If there are a lot of large packages in the queue, it may be 6:00 PM before everything is fully synced up.
