Computer freezes, when changing AC<->DC

Hello,
I have a problem with my laptop ( Asus F5V ). It freezes every time when I unplug AC-adapter. I have tried to boot AC-adapter unplugged, but then start process will freeze at random point. I have installed acpid, PM-utils and cpufrequtils (actually frequency scaling isn't working, but that's not my biggest problem). I haven't got a clue how to fix this problem. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Computer freezes, when changing AC<->DC

I have found workaround for this bug. If i boot with parameter acpi=off i dont have any problems. It must be someway acpi related problem. I will try to install acpi4asus, I hope it will solve this problem completely.

Re: Computer freezes, when changing AC<->DC

Hi,

Sorry for digging out this old post.
I read your post a while ago, as I had the same problem with my laptop, but couldn't
contribute anything useful back then.

Everything was running fine until I upgraded the kernel from 2.6.22 to 2.6.23.
Then I had to use acpi=off as a boot parameter, otherwise the system would show
the same strange freezings....

Now I found out, that if I disable a so called powersave mode in my bios (it is
supposed to throttle the cpu) everything works again (as cpufreq scaling works
this was superfluous anyway).

I still have no clue what it is....
But at least it has something to do with the 2.6.23 kernel. In its changelog it reads, that
they added someting like acpi module autoloading. Maybe the kernel and the bios are now
competing and mess things up.

So have a look at your bios. Hopefully this is useful for you or someone else.

good luck
