Fans turning on too soon

My fans in my laptop turn on but with my CPU throttling it runs almost at room temperature yet the fans constantly run, is there any easy way to fix this?

Re: Fans turning on too soon

Hi,

Sorry for this useless post, but I've the same problem on a Packard Bell Ipower 5000 serie 1....! (Pentium 4, SIS645DX,...)
Even with a low usage of CPU, the fan is turning almost every minute.

Thus, I'm also interested in a way to resolve this.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Fans turning on too soon

check if whats speed your cpu is running at with
#cat /proc/cpuinfo
(where is days "cpu MHZ" is what its running at)
If it hasnt scaled down this might explain it.

I'm using p4-clockmod and cpufrequtils, with the "ondemand" governor.
I've tried to install lm_sensors, without succes: my hardware doesn't support monitoring.  So I can't know the temp of the different devices.

It's maybe an hardware issue (this is a second hand laptop), but I hope it's not t the case.  Is there any way to know what's wrong?

PS:

- /proc/acpi/fan/ and /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/ are empty.
- thermal and fan modules are loaded

Thanks.

Re: Fans turning on too soon

Hello. I had the same problem, but the decision was simply banal ( in my case): I just cleaned the fan manually, there was a lot of dust there, and now its working great. Now i clean laptop once for a few months. Have a good day.
