No sound, Soundblaster Live 24 and onboard chip

Hey all.
I just installed Arch Linux "Don't Panic" and am typing this from my new shiny KDE installation.  Thus far this forum and the wiki have been invaluable in getting everything up and running, and properly updated  I am enjoying this distrbution greatly and love the way it does things.

However I do not have any sound.  I followed the wiki in installing ALSA and looked around this forum to see if I could get help from other people previous problems, but no such luck.  I have a Soundblaster Live 24 sound card installed in a PCI slot and an on board AC97 something that I have disabled in the BIOS(windows can't see, neither should Linux, right?).

I did a check of lspci and lsmod and it would seem as though Arch is not even aware fo this card hanging off of my motherboard.
The check of lspci found no relevent information, below is the lsmod

[menokh@bahamut ~]$ lsmod | grep snd
snd_ca0106 31072 1
snd_ac97_codec 95652 1 snd_ca0106
snd_rawmidi 19232 1 snd_ca0106
snd_seq_oss 29312 0
snd_seq_midi_event 6528 1 snd_seq_oss
snd_seq 46672 4 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_seq_device 6924 3 snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
snd_pcm_oss 37024 0
snd_pcm 69124 3 snd_ca0106,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 19332 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc 8072 2 snd_ca0106,snd_pcm
snd_mixer_oss 14592 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd 45028 12 snd_ca0106,snd_ac97_codec,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mixer_oss
soundcore 6496 1 snd
ac97_bus 2432 1 snd_ac97_codec

Stranger still is the fact the alsa and KDE arts both think I have sound(but I do not get anything out fo my speakers), but I do not have a Master or PCM control, but do have a buch of seemingly useless controls listed for output, here is the output for the amixer command

Any thoughts?  And are there any other files or code snipets you'd like me to post?

Re: No sound, Soundblaster Live 24 and onboard chip

I have a new HP s3020n desktop (AMD X2) with onboard sound, and I have the same problem.  Arch seems to recognize that I have onboard sound, and lots of modules get loaded, but no sound.  Also, alsamixer does not show a "master" or "PCM" control.  Have you made any more progress on this issue?

Re: No sound, Soundblaster Live 24 and onboard chip

Sadly no real progress.
I simply pulled the Soundblaster Live 24 out of the computer and am using the onboard sound instead which at least for me Arch recognized just fine.
I haven't been able to get any suggestions for why the Soundblaster was not working, but I am going to try another sound card a friend lent me and see what happens.

Re: No sound, Soundblaster Live 24 and onboard chip

Soundblaster Live! 24 bit is quite a common card (and the chip is supported under Linux). I have it in my server, and it works fine (albeit with an older 2.6.21 kernel). Haven't tried the 2.6.22.x yet.
