When I updated to the latest xorg I was able to remove xorg.conf and every thing work, it even got my ca keyboard right. Now all of a sudden it doesn't work any more I had to reinstate xorg.conf. I run KDE and testing I also have gnome 2.2 installed. Any body have an idea whats wrong.

1) What do you mean "it doesn't work"? Do you get to the desktop at all, does it return you immediately to the console (the "DOS prompt", as we geezers say), or what happens? Try running just Xorg instead of startx and see if you get a bare desktop; that will tell you if xorg itself is failing or if your startup procedure in xinitrc (~/.xinitrc) is failing.
B) Does /var/log/Xorg.0.log tell you anything useful, like it can't find an essential path or it can't find a pointer device?
5) Are you using your own xorg.conf or a system-generated one? If you have modified xorg.conf, rename it and use Xorg -config to create a new system-generated xorg.conf. If that works, gradually modify the contents of the new xorg.conf *one at a time* to see if changing anything breaks it.

What happens is I get the command line, startx will start KDE. I have kdm in my rc.conf and KDE would start without xorg.conf. Now I need xorg.conf. The latest xorg is supposed to work without xorg.conf and it did until a couple of days ago?
