Bad input quility over mic

Hi.

I'm running my Acer Aspire 3614 with ArchLinux on it and was able to make everything work. The only problem there is left is that sound input over an external microphone has a really bad quality (maybe the internal mic too, I can't test it now because it's currently not working at all after I've been messing with alsamixer ... does anyone know BTW how to rewert all ALSA settings to default ).

It's not a 3rd-party-software-problem because arecord and Skype produce the same bad quality so I'm guessing it has something to do with the driver.
